Members of Chaverim Of Rockland played a pivotal role in the apprehension of a suspect linked to several crimes over the past week in Spring Valley and Hillcrest. The suspect, whose spree of thefts alarmed local businesses and residents, was finally caught due to the collaborative efforts of local police and Chaverim Of Rockland’s volunteers.
The series of events leading to the arrest began on Thursday, March 21, when the individual brazenly entered the DG Express Dry Goods store located on Maple Avenue. In a bold act, the suspect took an employee’s wallet and cell phone directly from the premises.
In a separate incident reported earlier today, a business owner on North Main Street discovered that two laptops were missing from his office. The disappearance of these items prompted a thorough investigation by the Ramapo Police, Spring Valley Police, Rockland County Sheriff’s BCI, and volunteers from Chaverim Of Rockland. After reviewing hours of footage, authorities confirmed that the incidents at both the DG Express and the North Main Street office involved the same suspect.
The breakthrough came later in the afternoon when a concerned citizen alerted Chaverim Of Rockland about a suspicious individual in the vicinity of Union Road and Maple Avenue. Recognizing the suspect from the descriptions related to the earlier thefts, Chaverim volunteers promptly informed the Spring Valley Police. The police responded swiftly, arresting the individual suspected of both crimes.
Upon arrest, authorities discovered multiple stolen credit cards in the possession of the suspect. Additionally, the cell phone stolen from DG Express and one of the laptops were recovered, linking the suspect directly to the thefts.
