Witness A Rare Blue Moon Tonight From Your Own Backyard

Tonight will give residents the opportunity to witness a rare meteorological event: a blue supermoon. We won’t see another until… 2037.

During a supermoon, the moon appears larger and brighter in the sky. It’s called a “blue” supermoon when it’s the second supermoon in a single month. We had a supermoon early in August.

Around 25% of all full moons are supermoons, but only 3% of full moons are blue moons.

No, the moon will not appear blue. Sorry about that. However, NASA says the moon will be about 14% larger than usual.

The blue supermoon is set to appear after 9:30 pm and will remain that way until the morning.
