Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Rockland County on Thursday – Second Storm Expected Motzei Shabbos (Saturday Night)

The U.S. National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Rockland County, with a mix of snow and ice expected to create hazardous travel conditions during Thursday morning’s commute.

Forecast Details:

  • Snowfall begins: Early Thursday morning, around 3-4 AM
  • Wintry mix transition: Freezing rain expected between 8-11 AM
  • Change to rain: By late morning into early afternoon
  • Total snow accumulation: 1-3 inches
  • Ice accumulation: 0.05 to 0.10 inches

According to Town of Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann, local crews are fully prepared for the incoming storm, which marks the first of two winter systems expected this week. “The Town of Clarkstown Highway Department has pre-treated roads and loaded trucks with salt in preparation for the call. School districts have largely announced delays as we all monitor the weather,” Hoehmann stated.

The Town of Ramapo Highway Department and Town of Ramapo Police Department are also monitoring conditions. Officials caution that freezing rain could create treacherous roadways before temperatures rise in the afternoon, leading to rain showers continuing until around 3-4 PM.

Second Storm Expected Motzei Shabbos (Saturday Night)

Forecasters are also tracking a more significant storm set to arrive late Saturday into Sunday. Current projections indicate 5-8 inches of snow falling between 6 PM Saturday and 11 AM Sunday.

Residents are advised to drive with caution, allow extra travel time, and stay updated on weather developments through local alerts and official announcements.

Stay safe and stay tuned for further updates.
