West Nyack Fire Department Receives $236,428 Grant for Safety Equipment

In a significant move towards bolstering firefighter safety, West Nyack Fire Department (WNFD) has been awarded a grant of $236,428 from Grant-Guys Inc. The funds will be used to purchase 35 Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) sets, which include the main unit, a mask, and two cylinders.

This is the first time that the WNFD has received an award from Grant-Guys, a Long Island-based small business specializing in grant applications. Tom Devaney, Director of State and Local Programs at Grant Guys, expressed his satisfaction with the successful application, stating that the federal support “reduces local taxes, increases services to the community and enhances firefighter safety.”

The WNFD is known for its regular responses to the Tappan Zee (Governor Mario M. Cuomo) Bridge, where they often encounter tankers transporting hazardous materials and car fires that require the use of SCBA equipment. This grant will ensure that the department is well-equipped to handle such emergencies and protect both firefighters and the community.

In addition to the funds for the SCBA equipment, the grant also covers the federal reimbursement of grant writing expenses. Grant-Guys Inc. produced the successful grant applications that led to this award.

The acquisition of new SCBA sets will enhance the WNFD’s ability to respond effectively to incidents involving hazardous materials and car fires, providing better protection for both firefighters and the community.
