West Haverstraw Man Arrested After Crashing Into Stony Point Police Station Lawn During Drug-Induced Incident

In the early hours of Friday, July 18, 2025, Stony Point Police arrested 43-year-old Abdi Diaz of West Haverstraw after he recklessly drove a vehicle onto the lawn and into a restricted area behind the Stony Point Police Department.

The incident occurred around 12:20 AM, when Diaz sped into the police station parking lot and onto the front lawn. While the vehicle was in motion, a female passenger jumped out of the car. Officers at the station quickly intervened and stopped the vehicle before it exited the property.

Police determined that Diaz was experiencing a drug-induced psychosis and hallucinating. He was placed under arrest and transported to a local hospital for evaluation. The female passenger was unharmed, though the station’s lawn sustained significant damage.

Following his release from the hospital, Diaz was processed on multiple charges, including Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI) by drugs, Criminal Mischief in the 4th degree, Reckless Endangerment in the 4th degree, and Reckless Driving. He was issued an appearance ticket and multiple traffic summonses, returnable to Stony Point Justice Court on August 5, 2025, at 9:00 AM.
