West Haverstraw Fire Department Responds to Detached Garage and Vehicle Fire

On Wednesday, the West Haverstraw Fire Department (WHFD) responded to a detached garage fire, accompanied by a separate vehicle fire on Samsondale Avenue. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered an advanced fire situation, resulting in some property damage; however, it is fortunate that no injuries were reported.

The WHFD would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to avoid emergency scenes. It is essential to be aware of firefighters navigating the streets and conducting operations during such incidents. Additionally, the fire department emphasizes that flashing blue lights on private vehicles indicate a firefighter en route to an emergency. New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law advises motorists to yield to these vehicles.

Furthermore, it is critical never to drive over a fire hose laid out in the street, as doing so could lead to severe consequences for both vehicle occupants and the firefighters who rely on the water supply.
