The Ramapo Police Department responded earlier today to a reported shoplifting incident at the Walmart, where the suspect fled the scene on foot.
According to police, the individual ran across Route 59 and into a wooded marsh area behind a nearby service station, prompting a coordinated response by officers on the ground.
Authorities deployed the department’s RAPTOR-1 Drone as a First Responder, powered by Skydio technology. Using thermal imaging, the drone located the suspect’s heat signature in the marsh, allowing officers to safely close in on the individual.
Officers Grant and Rivera took the suspect into custody without incident.
Police noted that just days earlier, several officers completed advanced drone training with Sean Ludden, and said today’s incident highlights how the technology is already enhancing real-time policing capabilities. Officials described the system as a “game changer” in modern law enforcement.
