New York State Troopers are being hailed as heroes after rescuing a man trapped in a burning vehicle following a serious crash on the Palisades Interstate Parkway early Sunday morning.
As first reported by Monsey Scoop on September 14, the crash occurred at approximately 4:40 a.m. on the northbound side of the Parkway near Exit 12. Troopers Derick Macaulay and Peter Pjetri responded to the one-car crash and arrived to find a Subaru Crosstrek that had slammed into a tree in the center median, its engine compartment already engulfed in flames.
The driver, suffering serious injuries and unable to move, was trapped inside. Acting without hesitation, the troopers pulled the man from the vehicle and then re-entered the car to ensure no other passengers were inside. Just moments later, the vehicle became fully consumed by fire.
According to investigators, the driver struck a deer before losing control of his vehicle and crashing into the tree. He sustained two fractured ankles and facial injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
New York State Police have since released body-worn camera footage of the dramatic rescue. The crash remains under investigation.
