The Village of Spring Valley is beginning work today to repair the wiring and traffic signal at the intersection of Union Road and Morris Road, following efforts by village trustees to find the most cost-effective solution to restore the light.
The repairs are expected to serve as a temporary solution while a new traffic signal at Twin Avenue and Union Road moves through the final stages of completion. Funding for that project was secured with assistance from Congressman Mike Lawler.
Once the new Twin Avenue and Union Road traffic signal becomes operational, the Union Road and Morris Road signal is expected to be temporarily disabled. A traffic study determined that the new signal should be sufficient to manage traffic in the area.
Village officials said that if traffic conditions show the Morris Road signal is still needed, it can be reactivated and synchronized with the new Twin Avenue signal.
Work on the Union Road and Morris Road signal is beginning today, and officials are hopeful it will be fully operational within approximately two weeks.
