Village of Nyack Mourns the Passing of Former Mayor Terry Hekker

The Village of Nyack is mourning the passing of former Mayor Terry Hekker, who passed away Monday morning.

In a message released by Village Hall, officials expressed heartfelt condolences to Hekker’s family and friends, describing her as “an indomitable force of nature—an enormously talented writer, thinker, and speaker, as well as a three-term Mayor of our Village.” The statement noted that her insight and guidance were invaluable to those who worked with her, adding, “She was a remarkable woman, and we will all miss her very much.”

In her memory, the Village will lower the American flag at Village Hall this week.

“Rest in peace, Mayor Hekker,” the statement concluded. “We will not see her like again.”
