Village of New Hempstead Announces Sidewalk Project, Temporary Road Closures

The Village of New Hempstead has announced a new sidewalk installation project aimed at improving pedestrian safety and accessibility. The work will take place along Summit Park Road, connecting Sandy Brook Park to the existing sidewalk past David Drive.

Construction is set to begin on or about April 7, 2025, and will require temporary road closures. During this period, Summit Park Road will be restricted to local residential traffic only from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for approximately two weeks.

Mayor Abe Sicker acknowledged the inconvenience but emphasized that closing the road eliminates the need for flagmen, saving the village $59,250 in project costs.

Residents with concerns or questions can reach out to the Village of New Hempstead clerk’s office at 845-354-8100 (Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.) or email concerns@newhempstead.org.

The village appreciates the community’s cooperation and looks forward to enhancing walkability and safety for residents.
