The Village of Airmont has announced that Orange & Rockland Utilities (O&R), along with contractor Riggs and Distler Inc., will begin a gas main replacement project on Stage Street starting June 4. The infrastructure upgrade will include the installation of approximately 650 feet of new gas main and is expected to continue through June 18, weather permitting.
The project, which represents a $315,941 investment in the neighborhood’s natural gas infrastructure, is intended to improve the safety, reliability, and performance of the local gas distribution system. Following the installation of the new main, contractors will coordinate directly with affected homeowners to complete service connections, which may include relocating indoor gas meters and regulators to the exterior of homes for easier access by utility personnel.
Residents should expect construction activity in the area, including possible excavation on private property, temporary roadway trenches, and brief gas service interruptions during the transition to the new gas main. O&R stated that all disturbed areas will be restored, including lawn reseeding and surface repairs, and road plates will be used to maintain driveway access and safe passage. A dedicated inspector will be on-site throughout the project, and utility crews will relight appliance pilot lights following any service interruptions.
Village officials are asking residents for their patience and cooperation as the work is completed.
