Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered that residents were hosting a large birthday party, which had extended from the previous day. During the event, a physical altercation ensued, leading to the expulsion of a 24-year-old former resident from the premises.
Subsequently, while police officers were on-site addressing the situation involving multiple intoxicated individuals, the 24-year-old suspect forcibly entered the residence by kicking in the front door. Armed with a knife, he menaced another male partygoer, holding the weapon to the victim’s neck and threatening to stab him.
In a courageous attempt to disarm the suspect, a third individual intervened, resulting in the victim being stabbed in the upper chest, just below his right shoulder. A vigilant responding officer witnessed the stabbing, promptly deployed his taser, and successfully subdued the suspect, placing him under arrest. Notably, it was revealed that the defendant and the victim are brothers-in-laws.
Further investigation uncovered an additional disturbing incident during the initial altercation, where the suspect had punched a 12-year-old female in the face, causing physical injuries.
In response to the incident, Rockland County Sheriff’s and New York State Police provided assistance at the scene. Ramapo Detectives continued their investigation, and the Rockland County Sheriffs/BCI Unit processed the scene. Additionally, the Village of New Hempstead Building and Zoning Inspectors were notified due to suspicions of illegal multi-dwelling occupancy at the location.
Currently, the suspect awaits arraignment at New Hempstead Court and faces multiple charges, including Assault 1st, Assault 2nd, Burglary 1st, CPW (Criminal Possession of a Weapon), Criminal Mischief, Menacing, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
