New York State Police have released new details regarding the dramatic arrest of an Uber driver on Wednesday morning that was first reported by Monsey Scoop.
State Police said Joel A. Guzman, 32, of Brooklyn, was arrested following an altercation with a passenger at the Suffern Tandem Lot along the New York State Thruway in the Town of Ramapo.
The incident began shortly before 7:00 a.m. Wednesday when troopers responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing. According to police, the 32-year-old victim from California had initially been taken by Guzman to the Sloatsburg Service Area, although his intended destination was the Suffern Tandem Lot approximately a half-mile away.
Guzman then drove the passenger to the correct location, where police said an argument broke out over payment for the ride. During the dispute, Guzman allegedly attacked the passenger with a knife.
The victim suffered defensive lacerations to his arm and was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Guzman fled the scene, prompting authorities to issue a BOLO for his vehicle. He was later located by MTA Police on the RFK Bridge in New York City and taken into custody. Police said a knife was recovered from the vehicle.
As Monsey Scoop reported Wednesday, a yungerman and his family were passengers in the Uber when officers surrounded the vehicle and took the driver into custody at gunpoint, with the dramatic arrest captured on video.
Guzman was returned to State Police in Tarrytown and charged with felony second-degree assault and misdemeanor fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
He was arraigned in Ramapo Town Court and released after bail was set at $1,000 cash, $5,000 bond, or a 10% partially secured $20,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court later this month.
An Order of Protection was also issued for the victim.
State Police credited the Rockland and Westchester County Real Time Crime Centers, MTA Police, and New York State Police units in New York City with assisting in quickly locating and apprehending the suspect.

Only 1000.00 bail? What a joke 🤣
I hope his uber license was revoked
Why are these people in our beautiful country??
B”H
The law stinks when such a dangerous individual is released shortly after
committing an armed violent felony without subjecting him/her to electronic
monitoring of his/her exact location, as well as requiring him/her to notify authorities
if/when s/he needs to leave his/her home for any reason and getting authorization,
and possibly having him/her wear a surveillance camera. No joke. This is consistent
with the times and available modern technology. Just letting a stabber go loose, why,
so s/he can do it again, l”r?
Carry pepper spray when getting into an Uber etc. you just never know who your driver will be. In NYC they are mostly Moslem Jew haters. You need to be prepared to disable the driver if he turns on you/get violent and be able to get away without getting hurt.
BE PREPARED BE SMART!
