Additional details have been released by the Spring Valley Police Department regarding the stabbing incident on Gesner Drive that Monsey Scoop reported as it unfolded Tuesday night.
As Monsey Scoop previously reported in its initial coverage, officers responded to the scene after reports of a stabbing and quickly took a suspect into custody following a brief foot pursuit.
According to police, officers on patrol were flagged down at approximately 10:28 p.m. near the Gesner Drive apartment complex regarding a reported stabbing. Officers quickly encountered the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Malik Baptiste of Spring Valley, who allegedly fled on foot before being apprehended following a brief pursuit.
The investigation determined that Baptiste unlawfully entered a residence at 18 Gesner Drive and allegedly stabbed a male guest inside the home while a child was present. Police say several items inside the residence were also damaged during the incident.
The victim reportedly refused to cooperate with investigators.
Baptiste has been charged with multiple offenses, including Burglary in the First Degree, Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Obstructing Governmental Administration, and Resisting Arrest.
He was arraigned in Spring Valley Justice Court and remanded to the Rockland County Jail after bail was set at $50,000 cash, $75,000 bond, or a $100,000 partially secured bond.
