A 61-year-old Monroe man was arrested on felony DWI charges after crashing his vehicle into a Hillcrest residence Thursday afternoon, as Monsey Scoop reported.
At approximately 12:27 p.m., Ramapo Police officers responded to West Eckerson Road following a welfare check request from the Spring Valley Police Department regarding a potentially impaired driver. Upon arrival, officers observed the vehicle swerving into oncoming traffic before mounting a curb and crashing into a home.
The driver exhibited clear signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, poor motor coordination, and the odor of alcohol. Numerous open alcohol containers were found inside the vehicle. Authorities later confirmed the driver had a prior DWI conviction within the past ten years, resulting in a felony charge.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the home’s residents.
The Ramapo Police Department reminds the public of the serious risks posed by impaired driving and urges anyone who spots a suspected impaired driver to call 911 immediately.
