UPDATE: Ramapo Helicopter Incident Not Military-Related; FAA Investigation Underway

Following Friday afternoon’s report of a low-flying helicopter over the Monsey–Spring Valley area, the Ramapo Police Department has clarified that the aircraft is not military-related and does not appear to be connected to Fleet Week.

As of Sunday, May 25, 2025, police confirmed that the aircraft’s operation is under review in coordination with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and a Ramapo detective assigned to a federal task force. Authorities are investigating whether the flight violated aviation regulations, particularly in light of reports that the helicopter may have been flying below 500 feet above ground level (AGL).

No further incidents have been reported, but the investigation remains active. The Ramapo Police Department expressed appreciation for the public’s vigilance and reiterated its commitment to ensuring community safety.

Helicopter Activity Over Ramapo Triggers Police Response; Linked To Military Fleet Week

The Ramapo Police Department responded to a report of a low-flying helicopter over the Monsey–Spring Valley border at approximately 2:32 PM Friday afternoon, after a concerned resident alerted authorities.

Officers were dispatched to the area, but the helicopter had already departed by the time they arrived. Video shared by bystanders showed the aircraft flying at an undetermined altitude, with what appeared to be a person waving from the front left seat.

Following the incident, Ramapo Police notified the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office. Preliminary information suggests the helicopter activity may be connected to Fleet Week, an annual celebration featuring aerial demonstrations by the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.

There were no further reports or sightings of the aircraft, and no safety concerns have been identified at this time. Authorities thanked the community for their vigilance and reminded residents to report any unusual activity.
