The Piermont Fire Department Dive Team and Marine Unit were called in for mutual aid to Westchester County to assist with the search and recovery efforts following a drowning incident that occurred Monday night as Monsey Scoop reported.
The Piermont team, comprising of Chief 13-3, 13-Marine, six divers, and four EMTs, responded promptly. Working in collaboration with the Westchester County Police, Rockland County Sheriff’s Marine Units, and dive teams from the New York State Police and New Rochelle Police, the search continued with intensified efforts.
The missing swimmer was located approximately 100 yards south of the last known location, submerged in 20 feet of water. After successfully completing the dive operations, the Piermont Marine Unit cleared the scene.
The Dobbs Ferry Fire Department released the following statement:
On Tuesday morning, July 9, at 9 a.m., recovery efforts resumed off the coast of the Dobbs Ferry Waterfront. By approximately 10:30 a.m., divers recovered the missing swimmer, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of their next of kin.
The Dobbs Ferry Fire Department expressed gratitude to all agencies involved in the rescue and recovery efforts. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim and their family at this time”
