The New York State Police have released new details regarding the serious early Friday morning crash on the NYS Thruway near Exit 15A in Sloatsburg — first reported by Monsey Scoop — confirming that one of the drivers has been charged with Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child (Leandra’s Law).
According to State Police, troopers from the Tarrytown barracks responded around 2:21 a.m. on October 10, 2025, to a two-vehicle crash on I-87 northbound. The investigation determined that Junior Liverpool, 45, of Central Valley, was operating a 2017 Tesla when he struck a 2017 Toyota SUV that had been pulled over on the right shoulder due to mechanical problems.
Troopers said Liverpool displayed signs of alcohol impairment and tested positive during both a field sobriety and preliminary breath test. Further investigation revealed that two children under the age of 16 were inside his vehicle at the time of the crash. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital along with his children for evaluation but refused to provide a blood sample to determine his blood alcohol content.
Liverpool was arrested and charged with Aggravated DWI with a Child (Leandra’s Law) and later released to a sober third party. He is scheduled to appear in Ramapo Town Court on November 5, 2025.
The driver of the parked Toyota and his passengers — including six children — were transported to Westchester Medical Center for further evaluation. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage and were towed from the scene.
