New details have emerged regarding the chase on Route 59 that resulted in multiple crashes and injuries. Authorities now believe that the driver, who was involved in the dangerous pursuit, may have been attempting to commit suicide.
Witnesses reported seeing the driver behaving erratically and appearing semi-unconscious as he drove. When police attempted to pull him over, he tried to flee, colliding with a police car and other vehicles along Route 59 before being stopped.
The situation escalated quickly as the driver, in his distressed state, endangered the lives of others on the road. The chase ended after a Spring Valley officer executed a PIT maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a halt. The driver was then arrested at the scene.

A routine traffic stop escalated into a chase that resulted in multiple crashes and injuries along Route 59 near West Clarkstown Road. Spring Valley Police initiated the stop, but the driver, whose car had heavily tinted windows, refused to comply. After briefly stopping, the driver refused to open the windows. When the officer attempted to break the window, the driver fled the scene.
As the chase continued, the fleeing vehicle crashed into multiple vehicles and struck several pedestrians along Route 59, heading towards Culinary Depot. The incident prompted a major response from multiple agencies, including the Clarkstown Police Department, New York State Police, Rockland Sheriff’s Office, Rockland Paramedics, Hatzoloh EMS, and Spring Hill EMS, who rushed to the scene to treat the injured.
The chase ended when a Spring Valley officer executed a PIT maneuver, forcing the fleeing vehicle to stop. The driver was arrested at the scene by Spring Valley Police. The reason for the initial traffic stop is still unknown at this time.
