UPDATE: Arrest Made After Two Men Stabbed During Violent Spring Valley Assault; Police Seeking Additional Suspects

Spring Valley Police have released additional information following the violent assault that occurred shortly before 1:00 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Jay Street and Division Avenue, where two men were stabbed during a large fight.

According to police, officers arrived to find a large crowd fleeing the area and quickly located two adult male victims who had been assaulted by a large group. Both victims suffered severe stab wounds, with one requiring a tourniquet to stop heavy bleeding. Both were treated for their injuries and are expected to make a full recovery.

Police say officers took one suspect into custody at the scene, later identified as Diego Huerta, 18, of South Spring Valley. Detectives from the Spring Valley Police Department, assisted by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigation, launched an extensive investigation.

Investigators allege that Huerta, along with several unidentified suspects, assaulted one of the victims by striking him over the head with a glass bottle before stabbing him with a sharp-edged weapon. Police say the attack occurred in front of the victim’s three young children and other family members.

Huerta has been charged with First-Degree Assault, First-Degree Gang Assault, Second-Degree Assault, three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Fourth-Degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

He was arraigned in Spring Valley Justice Court before Judge Brimais-Tenemille, who set bail at $5,000 cash, $10,000 bond, or a $15,000 partially secured bond. Huerta was remanded to the Rockland County Jail pending further court proceedings.

The investigation remains active, and police say additional arrests are possible. Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Spring Valley Police Department at 845-356-7400 or email tips@villagespringvalley.org.
