What was meant to be a joyous evening turned into a night to remember for one Chestnut Ridge family after an unexpected four-legged guest made its way into their home during a Vacht Nacht celebration.
The incident occurred Monday night as the family was hosting a Vacht Nacht—an intimate and meaningful event held on the eve of a newborn boy’s bris. Friends and family had gathered to celebrate, and as guests flowed in and out of the house, the front door was frequently left ajar. Amid the comings and goings, a large, unfamiliar dog suddenly wandered inside the home.
Eyewitnesses say the dog strolled in as if it were part of the simcha, casually walking from room to room. While some guests were amused, others were understandably alarmed.
The homeowner quickly sprang into action, placing a call to Chaverim of Rockland and the Ramapo Police for assistance. Within minutes, volunteers from Chaverim arrived, along with officers from the Ramapo Police Department. Working together, they safely secured the dog, preventing any further disruption or potential harm.
Despite its unexpected entrance, the dog remained calm and did not display any aggressive behavior. However, it had no collar or identifying tags, leaving responders with no immediate way to determine where it had come from. The animal was eventually transported to a local animal shelter.
