Emergency responders were called to the area of the Reeves Meadow Visitor Center after a hiker collapsed in the woods, prompting a large-scale rescue operation.
Units from the Sloatsburg Fire Department, Tallman Fire Department, Spring Hill EMS, Faist EMS, New York State Park Police, Ramapo Police Department, and Chaverim of Rockland responded to the scene.
Sources tell Monsey Scoop that the victim—an approximately 65-year-old Asian male—collapsed while hiking in a wooded area near the Reeves Meadow trail system. Due to the remote and difficult terrain, it took a significant amount of time for emergency personnel to access the patient. Once reached, responders immediately initiated lifesaving measures, including CPR, which continued for more than an hour.
Despite extensive efforts, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. Highly trained Chaverim of Rockland Search and Rescue volunteers then assisted in a technical carry-out, using a specialized rescue stretcher to transport the victim down from the trail in coordination with Spring Hill EMS.
The victim was subsequently turned over to the Rockland County Medical Examiner for further investigation.
Monsey Scoop will post updates as more information becomes available.
