TRAFFIC ALERT – Rockland County: Road Closures and Delays Expected This Sunday for Gran Fondo World Championship Bike Race

Drivers across Rockland County are advised to expect significant road closures and traffic delays on Sunday, May 18, 2025, due to the GFNY World Championship Bicycle Race. The annual international event will bring hundreds of cyclists through the towns of Stony Point, Haverstraw, Pomona, New Hempstead, and Ramapo between the hours of 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM.

The race route will span several key areas, with police departments across the affected towns providing traffic control to ensure the safety of both participants and the general public.

Stony Point Route (Approx. 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM):

Cyclists will enter via River Road, continuing through:

  • Grassy Point Road

  • Beach Road

  • Tomkins Avenue

  • Route 9W North

  • Mott Farm Road

  • Cedar Flats Road

  • Route 210

  • Gate Hill Road

  • Willow Grove Road

Haverstraw / Pomona Route (Approx. 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM):

Cyclists will travel through:

  • Route 9W into the Village of Haverstraw

  • Short Clove Road to Broadway

  • Beach Road northbound to Bear Mountain

  • Return via Willow Grove Road and Call Hollow Road

  • Climb Halley Drive in Pomona

  • Exit near Quaker Road and Camp Hill Road into Ramapo

Pomona / Ramapo Route (Approx. 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM):

The route continues:

  • Ladentown Road

  • Past Route 202

  • Route 306

  • Pomona Road

  • Route 45

  • Past PIP Exit 12

  • Concklin Road

Law enforcement will be stationed along the entire course to manage traffic and assist with safety. Motorists are strongly advised to plan ahead, use alternate routes where possible, and allow extra travel time.

Police urge drivers to exercise caution, remain alert for cyclists and officers, and thank the public in advance for their cooperation and patience in helping make this event a safe success.
