Town of Ramapo Secures Grant for New Storm Response Equipment for Chaverim of Rockland, Ramapo OEP

With heavy rain and the potential for flooding in the forecast, the Town of Ramapo highlighted its ongoing partnership with Chaverim of Rockland and the Town’s Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) after securing a special grant to purchase critical storm response equipment.

On Tuesday, Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht visited Chaverim of Rockland headquarters, where volunteers showcased the new equipment purchased through the grant. The supplies include sump pumps, shop vacs, wet vacs, high-powered fans, and other tools that will be used to assist residents during severe weather and flooding emergencies.

“We’re here at Chaverim’s headquarters, and they’re showing me how they’re ready for the storm that’s coming this afternoon,” Specht said. “We have a great partnership, with the Town and Chaverim working together to keep our residents safe. Hopefully they won’t need to use this equipment, but if they do, they’re ready.”

Chaverim of Rockland Coordinator Yossi Margaretten thanked Supervisor Specht and the Town of Ramapo for obtaining the grant, saying the additional equipment will allow volunteers to respond more effectively whenever residents need assistance.

“I want to thank the Supervisor for getting this special grant so we’re able to have all this equipment and help the community,” Margaretten said. “From sandbags to sump pumps, shop vacs and fans, hopefully we won’t have to use them, but if we do, we’ll have everything ready. Thank you to Town for helping us out.”

The new equipment will further enhance Chaverim of Rockland’s ability, as part of the Town of Ramapo Office of Emergency Preparedness, to respond quickly to flooding, water damage, and other storm-related emergencies throughout the town.
