Town of Ramapo Police Issue Advisory Following Coyote Sightings

The Town of Ramapo Police Department has received several reports of coyote sightings throughout the community. Following recent coyote incidents in nearby Bergen County, police are urging residents to stay vigilant and informed.

While coyotes are a natural part of New York’s ecosystem and generally avoid people, officials caution that those which lose their fear of humans can pose a risk—especially to small pets and children.

The department shared information from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to help residents understand how to prevent and respond to coyote encounters.

Residents are encouraged to review the DEC’s official guidance on how to handle interactions with coyotes and keep their properties less inviting to wildlife:
