On Monday, the Town of Ramapo Office of Emergency Preparedness conducted specialized training sessions for the local police department, fire departments, EMS partners, and emergency organizations, including Chaverim of Rockland. The training focused on the town’s newly acquired Actively Tethered Drones for Emergency Response units.
The training was led by an expert from the drone manufacturer, who traveled from Wisconsin to provide comprehensive instruction. Multiple sessions were held throughout the day, attended by members of the Ramapo Police Department, local EMS corps, Rockland County Fire and Emergency Services, and Chaverim of Rockland. Participants were trained on the proper use and potential applications of the new drone technology.
Chaverim of Rockland, known for their extensive search and rescue operations, had the opportunity to practice with the new drones and discuss their integration into existing programs. This advanced drone training is expected to enhance their already proficient search and rescue capabilities.
In a related development, Chaverim of Rockland recently unveiled their new UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) command center. This state-of-the-art facility, equipped with advanced drone technology, will be used for specialized events and missing persons operations. The command center is anticipated to be fully operational within the next few weeks, marking a significant upgrade in Chaverim’s operational capabilities.
Chaverim of Rockland has a history of regular drone training. Last year, members received training from the Elizabeth Police Department to ensure they operate within the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations. These regulations are crucial for legal and effective drone operations.
Chaverim’s highly trained Search and Rescue Team, comprising around 100 volunteers, conducts weekly training sessions across various challenging terrains nationwide. Equipped with top-notch drone technology worth thousands of dollars, they are well-prepared for complex search and rescue missions.
