Town of Ramapo Leads Efforts to Address Traffic Concerns at Union Road and Elm Street Intersection

Local officials are taking decisive action to address traffic and safety concerns at the intersection of Union Road and Elm Street in Ramapo, following a comprehensive traffic analysis commissioned by the Town of Ramapo. The study, which highlighted significant operational and safety issues, particularly during peak hours, was carried out with the support of Town Supervisor Michael Specht his Chief of Staff Mona Montal and Congressman Mike Lawler.

The traffic analysis, completed in April 2024, identified the intersection as a high-risk area due to frequent right-angle crashes and congestion during peak hours. The study recommended several improvements, including the installation of a traffic signal and the realignment of Anthony Drive to enhance traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

In response to the findings, the Town of Ramapo, in collaboration with officials from the Village of Spring Valley, is set to hold a meeting this Thursday to discuss the implementation of these recommendations and the next steps in the project. The meeting will focus on how to move forward with the proposed improvements to alleviate traffic issues and improve safety at the intersection.

Spring Valley Deputy Mayor Yisroel Eisenbach expressed his gratitude to the Town of Ramapo for spearheading the initiative. “I want to thank the Town of Ramapo, especially Supervisor Michael Specht and Chief of Staff Mona Montal, for taking the lead in resolving this pressing traffic issue. Their dedication to the safety and well-being of our residents is commendable, and we look forward to seeing these improvements implemented,” said Eisenbach.

The proposed traffic signal installation and intersection realignment are expected to significantly reduce delays and enhance safety for both motorists and pedestrians, ensuring smoother traffic flow through this busy area. The project, estimated to cost $825,000, will be funded through a combination of local, state, and federal resources, with the Town of Ramapo covering a portion of the costs.

Local residents and commuters are hopeful that these improvements will make a meaningful difference in their daily travels, as the Town of Ramapo continues its efforts to enhance infrastructure and safety throughout the community.
