Town Of Ramapo Issues Warning Over Zoning Board Email Scam

The Town of Ramapo is alerting residents and businesses to an ongoing scam involving fraudulent emails that falsely claim to be from the Ramapo Zoning Board of Appeals. According to town officials, the emails originate from an address using the domain @usa.com and attempt to collect payment by attaching an invoice and requesting a wire transfer to a bank located in Kansas City, Missouri.

Officials stress that these emails are not legitimate and should be ignored. The Town of Ramapo does not request payments via wire transfer or through unofficial email domains. Residents are urged not to open any links or attachments contained in the messages and not to send any form of payment. Anyone who may have fallen victim to the scam is advised to contact their local police department immediately and take steps to protect their identity, including following guidance provided by the Federal Trade Commission.

Town officials say the notice is being shared for informational purposes to help protect the community from fraud and financial loss, and they extended wishes to residents for a happy, safe, and healthy holiday season.
