Town of Ramapo Issues Reminder on Senior Citizen Tax Exemption

The Town of Ramapo has issued an important reminder to senior residents about a property tax exemption they may be eligible for under Section 467 of the New York State Real Property Tax Law.

This exemption, which was implemented last year, was reported by Monsey Scoop. The law allows qualifying seniors 65 years of age or older to receive a tax reduction based on income limitations and other criteria. The exemption follows a sliding scale model, with local municipalities setting income limits between $3,000 and $58,399, based on the 2023 tax year.

Seniors wishing to apply must submit their applications to the Town of Ramapo Assessor’s Office by March 1, 2025. Applications are available at the Assessor’s Office, and residents can call (845) 357-5100 ext. 260 during business hours for further details.

“We want to ensure that all eligible seniors take advantage of this opportunity,” said Supervisor Michael B. Specht. “Providing relief for our senior residents remains a priority.”
