The Town of Ramapo held a ribbon cutting on Sunday afternoon for its latest sidewalk project on Smolley Drive, between College Road and Sophia Street. The newly installed sidewalks, located alongside Bais Yaakov of Spring Valley — which serves hundreds of students daily — are part of the town’s ongoing initiative to improve pedestrian safety and community accessibility.
The project was warmly welcomed by many local residents and neighbors, in addition to the school community, who praised the town’s responsiveness to longstanding safety concerns in the area. The sidewalks now provide a safe and convenient path for students, families, and pedestrians who frequent the neighborhood.
Supervisor Michael Specht told Monsey Scoop, “This initiative represents our ongoing commitment to making Ramapo safer for everyone, especially our children. I want to thank our incredible Town of Ramapo DPW team led by Superintendent of Public Works Engineer Michael Sadowski and Ed Moran, as well as Yossi Margaretten for his continued commitment to the community.”
Following the ribbon cutting, the town received a letter of appreciation from Bais Yaakov of Spring Valley, acknowledging the project’s impact:
Dear Supervisor Specht,
On behalf of the administration, staff, students, and parents of Bais Yaakov of Spring Valley, I would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to you and your team for the recent installation of sidewalks along Smolley Drive.
Your efforts have made a meaningful difference in the safety and well-being of our students and the broader community. The new sidewalks provide a secure path for our girls as they walk to and from school each day, and they reflect your commitment to ensuring a safer environment for all pedestrians in our neighborhood.
We truly value your continued partnership and dedication to our community’s needs. Please extend our thanks to everyone involved in making this project a reality.
With sincere appreciation,
Yitz Stern
Administrator, Bais Yaakov of Spring Valley
The Town of Ramapo plans to continue expanding its Pedestrian Safety Enhancement Initiative, with more sidewalk and infrastructure improvements scheduled for completion in the coming year.

They seem to have missed a house. The area in front of 8 Smolley was left intact.
