Town of Ramapo Expands Tax Exemptions for Persons with Disabilities

The Town of Ramapo has announced the adoption of Local Law 2, a new measure that expands eligibility for property tax exemptions benefiting individuals with disabilities and limited income.

Under this new legislation, the Exemption for Persons with Disabilities and Limited Income now includes additional ownership qualifications. Specifically, the exemption applies to:

  • A person with a disability who has their primary residence held in a special needs trust.
  • A property owner who has a tenant with a disability, provided the lease grants the tenant a life interest in the property for as long as they reside there.

While the eligibility criteria have been broadened, the income threshold remains at $58,399.

Residents interested in applying for the exemption must submit their applications by March 1. For further details, contact the Ramapo Assessor’s Office at (845) 357-5100, Ext. 260, Monday through Friday, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
