As Purim approaches, the Town of Ramapo has announced an updated traffic and safety plan aimed at keeping roads clear while ensuring the safety of all residents. After consulting with community leaders and local residents, town officials have decided not to implement special traffic patterns this year.
“In previous years, traffic adjustments created unintended difficulties for many residents. This year, we are taking a new approach to minimize disruptions while keeping traffic flowing smoothly,” said Town Supervisor Michael Specht. “We ask for the full cooperation of the community to make this a success.”
To help manage traffic, temporary traffic lights will be placed at key intersections, including Blauvelt Road and Route 306, as well as Ralph Boulevard and Route 306. These lights are expected to help maintain a steady flow of vehicles without the need for major detours.
The Ramapo Police Department will have extra officers on duty throughout Purim to assist with traffic and safety concerns. In addition, police bike patrols will be stationed along Route 306, down to Maple Avenue, and on Maple Avenue itself. These officers will monitor congestion and respond quickly to prevent backups.
Residents are urged to be considerate and keep traffic moving by avoiding unnecessary stops in the middle of the road when picking up or dropping off passengers. A little courtesy can go a long way in keeping roads clear for everyone.
Officials also emphasized the importance of responsible driving, reminding the community not to drink and drive. In past years, drinking and driving have led to serious accidents, and everyone is encouraged to make safe choices.
Speaking to Monsey Scoop, Supervisor Specht added, “Our goal is to ensure a smooth and safe Purim experience for everyone. We understand how important this holiday is to the community, and we are working hard to strike the right balance between safety and convenience. With the cooperation of residents and our police department, we are confident this plan will be a success.”
“With everyone’s cooperation, we hope this new plan will make Purim both safer and more convenient for our community,” Specht concluded. “Wishing everyone a joyous and safe Purim!”
