Thiells Fire Department Releases Statement Following Apparatus Collision While Responding to Emergency

The Thiells Fire Department has released an official statement regarding the collision involving one of its emergency apparatus while responding to a reported boating accident early Thursday morning.

According to Fire Chief Jeffrey Kahn, at approximately 12:06 a.m. on Thursday, July 2, a Thiells Fire Department apparatus was responding to a reported boat accident on the Hudson River in the vicinity of Haverstraw Marina.

While responding to the emergency, the apparatus was struck by another vehicle. The force of the collision caused significant damage, pushing the apparatus off the roadway and into a nearby residence, where it came to rest.

Multiple individuals, including members of the Thiells Fire Department, sustained injuries in the incident. All injured parties were evaluated and treated at local hospitals. The department reported that all of its injured members have since been released and are recovering.

Additional emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to provide medical care, secure the area, and ensure the safety of everyone involved. Fire Department operations continued with the assistance of mutual aid agencies, allowing emergency services to remain available to the community despite the incident.

The Thiells Fire Department expressed its gratitude to the neighboring fire departments, EMS agencies, law enforcement officers, and all emergency personnel who responded, thanking them for their professionalism, teamwork, and dedication in ensuring the safety and care of those involved.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the Town of Haverstraw Police Department. Out of respect for the ongoing investigation and everyone involved, the department said no further information regarding the circumstances of the collision will be released at this time.

The Officers and Members of the Thiells Fire Department asked the community to keep everyone affected by the incident in their thoughts during their recovery. The department also thanked the community for its continued support and extended its sincere wishes for a full and speedy recovery to all those involved.
