On Motzei Shabbos, Chaverim of Rockland received multiple calls reporting three suspicious individuals at the corner of Blauvelt Road and Manor Drive in Monsey. Concerned callers informed Chaverim that the individuals appeared to be carrying guns, possibly toy guns.
Chaverim of Rockland quickly dispatched their volunteers to the location, along with the Ramapo Police Department.
Upon arrival, it was determined that the individuals were in possession of Orbeez guns, which shoot small gel balls. The suspects had been firing the Orbeez guns into the air, not at people, and as a result, they were not arrested.
Sources tell Monsey Scoop that the three individuals intended to go on a spree in Monsey, planning to shoot the Orbeez guns at people. However, their plans were swiftly halted before they could cause any harm. The suspects are reported to be Hispanic males, two from Brooklyn, NY, and one from New Jersey. Two are minors, and the third is either over 18 or possibly a minor as well.
The Ramapo Police took the suspects’ information, escorted them out of Rockland County, and issued warnings. A search of their car revealed multiple Orbeez guns.
At this time, the Ramapo Police and Chaverim of Rockland are not aware of any victims who were shot by the Orbeez guns. However, they urge anyone who may have been a victim to contact the Ramapo Police at 845-357-2400 or Chaverim of Rockland at 845-371-6333.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance: if you see something, say something. Thanks to the quick actions of concerned residents, a potentially harmful situation was prevented.
