The Suffern Police Department announced that its Detective Bureau, working in partnership with the Rockland County Sheriff’s Intelligence Center, recently conducted a proactive sweep of 35 local businesses to check for ATM and credit card skimming devices. Authorities reported that no devices were detected during the operation.
Police explained that skimming devices are illegal tools used by criminals to capture credit and debit card information during legitimate transactions, often without a victim’s knowledge. The stolen data can then be used to commit fraud or identity theft.
Officials noted that proactive efforts like this are aimed at preventing financial crimes before they occur, helping to protect both residents and local businesses. The Suffern Police Department emphasized its continued commitment to staying ahead of emerging threats and ensuring the safety and security of the community.
