The Suffern Fire Department held a live training drill last week Monday at the top of the Village, utilizing a building that was heavily damaged in a major fire three years ago. The property was recently purchased, and the new owner generously granted firefighters permission to conduct the drill before renovations begin.
Mayor Michael F. Curley expressed his appreciation to the new owner for allowing this valuable, hands-on training opportunity. “This kind of real-life experience doesn’t come along often,” said Curley. “It was an incredible opportunity for our volunteers to sharpen their skills in a controlled but realistic environment.”
Prior to the exercise, Mayor Curley met with the Fire Department, the Village Building Department, and the Director of Public Works to create a comprehensive safety plan ensuring the drill was conducted safely and efficiently.
The training operation was carried out successfully, with both the Suffern and Tallman Fire Departments participating. Mayor Curley praised the professionalism and teamwork of all those involved, especially the senior members mentoring the newer firefighters. “As a former New York City firefighter, I was extremely proud to witness the dedication and expertise on display,” he said. “Our residents can rest assured they are in very capable hands.”
Mayor Curley extended his gratitude to all local firefighters for their ongoing service and commitment to protecting the Suffern community day in and day out.
