Storm Watch: O&R Utilities Gears Up for High Winds Hitting the Region Tonight and Tomorrow

Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R) is mobilizing its emergency response team as a powerful windstorm is set to impact the region tonight and tomorrow.

According to forecasts, sustained winds of 15-30 mph are expected, with gusts reaching 45-55 mph. These strong winds, combined with saturated soil, could lead to downed trees and power lines, posing a risk to electric service reliability.

In preparation, O&R is deploying its company and contractor overhead line crews, tree removal teams, and customer service operators. Additionally, the utility has secured 50 mutual aid crew members to assist in emergency response efforts if necessary.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about power outages by checking O&R’s Outage Map, which provides real-time updates. For those unfamiliar with the tool, O&R has also released a step-by-step instructional video to guide users through its features.
