Rockland County District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh II announced that Marilyn Mora, 27, of Stony Point, New York, has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in connection with the killing of her mother, Doris Quispe. The plea was entered on September 10, 2024, before Judge Anne B. Bianchi.
The tragic incident occurred on December 11, 2022, when Stony Point Police responded to a call reporting a stabbing in progress around 12:45 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, officers heard yelling from inside the home. Entering the residence, they discovered Quispe lying face down in a pool of blood in the upstairs hallway, with fatal injuries that included a slashed throat and a stab wound to the back. Mora was found at the scene, restrained by her husband, and was immediately taken into custody.
An investigation revealed that Mora’s husband witnessed the attack and was on the phone with 911 during the altercation that led to the stabbing. Authorities determined that Mora used two kitchen knives to inflict the fatal wounds on her mother.
District Attorney Tom Walsh condemned the brutal nature of the crime, stating, “The defendant engaged in a heinous act of senseless violence that resulted in the death of her mother. She now faces the full consequences under the law with a lengthy prison term. While nothing can bring back the victim, I hope this outcome offers some closure and allows for the healing process to begin.”
Mora has been remanded to Rockland County Jail and is set to be sentenced on December 3, 2024, where she faces 17 years in state prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision.
The case was prosecuted by Executive Assistant District Attorney Graham Chapman and First Assistant District Attorney Doreen Lloyd.
