After a decade of dedicated service to the Town of Stony Point, Supervisor Jim Monaghan has announced that he will not seek re-election, marking the end of his tenure at the close of this year.
Since taking office, Monaghan has focused on community development, infrastructure improvements, and fostering a strong sense of unity among residents. He stepped into the role following Geoff Finn’s administration, inheriting some of the post-Hurricane Sandy rebuilding efforts from 2012. Over the years, he has dedicated himself to enhancing the town’s quality of life while navigating the time-intensive demands of public service.
Among his proudest achievements is the Military Tribute Banner Program, which honors local service members with banners displayed on light poles throughout Stony Point, including along Route 9W and Main Street. His administration has also been instrumental in significant town improvements, including the development of a new senior community center, upgrades to local parks—such as the addition of pickleball courts and a dog park—and the renovation of Town Hall.
Monaghan attributes much of the town’s progress to a collaborative approach, emphasizing the strong working relationships he has built with the town board and municipal employees.
As he steps away from public office, Monaghan remains committed to the community he has served. He made the decision to retire in consultation with his family but assures residents that Stony Point will always hold a special place in his heart. In endorsing Deputy Town Supervisor Amy Stamm as his successor, he expressed confidence in her ability to continue the town’s positive momentum.
