The Stony Point Police Department, working in partnership with the Rockland County Sheriff’s Intelligence Unit, recently conducted a proactive skimmer detection detail at multiple gas stations and convenience stores throughout the Town of Stony Point.
During the operation, officers inspected credit card payment devices for signs of skimming equipment commonly used in financial fraud. Authorities report that all devices checked tested negative for skimmers, and no fraudulent equipment was discovered.
Store employees were described as welcoming and appreciative of the initiative, noting that the inspections provide added reassurance to customers and help safeguard local businesses from potential credit card fraud.
As Monsey Scoop recently reported, a similar proactive anti-fraud operation was conducted Tuesday by the Haverstraw Police Department, where officers inspected more than 130 credit card machines countywide.
The Stony Point Police Department is encouraging local business owners to take advantage of this free service. Merchants who would like their credit card devices inspected can request a check by contacting the department directly at 845-786-2422.
Officials say these inspections are part of ongoing community policing and fraud prevention efforts aimed at protecting residents, shoppers, and local businesses from financial crimes.
