Stony Point Police Issue Statement on Last Night’s Attempted Robbery and Shooting Incident

At approximately 9:40 PM on Monday, May 20, 2024, the Stony Point Police Department received a call from a male stating that police were needed at 22 Dickens St after someone had attempted to shoot him during an attempted robbery/home invasion.

Stony Point Police, along with Haverstraw Police, Rockland County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police, and the New York State Park Police, responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers located a 64-year-old male victim who reported that two males wearing ski masks confronted him as he entered his garage. One of the suspects displayed a firearm, and during a struggle, a shot was fired.

Stony Point Detectives initiated an investigation, assisted by the Rockland County Sheriff’s Department’s BCI, Computer Crimes Units, and both the Rockland County Sheriff’s and Westchester County Police Canine Units. A handgun was located at the scene and secured by detectives.

A suspect, Julian Sanchez, a 34-year-old male from the Bronx, was apprehended shortly after fleeing the scene. He was charged with Burglary 1st, Robbery 1st, Criminal Use of a Firearm 1st, CPW 2nd, Reckless Endangerment 1st, Grand Larceny 3rd, CPSP 3rd, and CPW 3rd. He is currently awaiting arraignment.
