Stony Point Police Arrest Two Men on Drug Possession Charges Following Routine Traffic Stop

On October 22, 2024, a routine traffic stop by the Stony Point Police Department led to the arrests of two men, Thomas Anselmi, 33, from Garnerville, NY, and Keith Wancho, 47, from West Haverstraw, NY, on multiple drug possession charges.

At approximately 8:10 p.m., a Stony Point police officer conducted a vehicle stop on South Liberty Drive. During the course of the stop, the officer observed a controlled substance in plain view inside the vehicle. The driver, identified as Thomas Anselmi, was taken into custody.

Following Anselmi’s arrest, additional officers arrived at the scene to assist with a search. The search uncovered a substantial quantity of drugs on Anselmi’s person, including cocaine, crack cocaine, black tar heroin, and prescription pills classified as controlled substances. Anselmi now faces several charges, including Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 7th degrees.

Further examination of the vehicle yielded an additional 3.5 ounces of cocaine. Passenger Keith Wancho was also found to be in possession of a small quantity of cocaine and oxycodone pills and was subsequently charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd and 7th degrees.

Following their arrests, both Anselmi and Wancho were transported to the Stony Point Police Department for processing. Anselmi, who has prior felony convictions, was remanded to the Rockland County Jail without bail. Wancho was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in Stony Point Justice Court on November 7, 2024, at 1:30 p.m.

The Stony Point Police Department reminds the public that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
