Stony Point Police Arrest Two in Burglary at Patriot Hills Drive

The Stony Point Police Department has announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with a burglary at 8 Patriot Hills Drive.

At approximately 2:12 PM on October 14, the police responded to a report of suspicious activity inside the building. Upon arrival, officers noticed an open basement window and heard the sound of power tools being used inside. Stony Point Police Detectives and officers from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office quickly set up a perimeter around the building.

Two men, identified as 58-year-old Joseph P. Squillante and 18-year-old Matthew Daniels, both of Stony Point, were found inside. They were taken into custody without incident and charged with multiple offenses, including third-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, criminal mischief in the fifth degree, criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, and trespassing.

A search of the building revealed that several copper pipes had been cut and removed. Authorities recovered a large bundle of copper pipes, brass fittings, a battery-operated saw with extra batteries, and a headlamp believed to have been used in the crime.

Both defendants were arraigned in Stony Point Justice Court. Due to prior felony convictions, Squillante was remanded to the Rockland County Jail, while Daniels was released on his own recognizance with a scheduled court return date.

This arrest is part of a larger pattern of recent criminal incidents in the Town of Stony Point. Police have successfully responded to these incidents, apprehending those responsible. “We just want to note—many of these incidents were the direct result of our observant residents seeing something and saying something. We rely on our residents to call us anytime they believe something is not right or someone is acting in a suspicious manner. We are so appreciative of our residents for their constant assistance. THANK YOU & KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!” said a spokesperson for the department.

As a reminder, “See something, say something.” If you observe any suspicious activity, do not hesitate to call the Stony Point Police Department at 845-786-2422.
