Stony Point Police Arrest Manhattan Man on Multiple Charges Following Domestic Dispute

On the evening of August 4, 2024, at approximately 7:30 PM, the Stony Point Police Department responded to multiple reports of a possible domestic dispute occurring in a parking lot on N. Liberty Dr. Upon arrival, officers found three individuals: 38-year-old Luis Sanchez from Manhattan, his girlfriend, and a passerby who had intervened in the altercation.

According to police reports, Sanchez allegedly placed his girlfriend in a headlock and struck her in the head and chest. A passerby, carrying a baseball bat, witnessed the assault and attempted to intervene. Sanchez then reportedly drove his vehicle at the passerby three times, narrowly missing him each time. In self-defense, the passerby swung the bat at the oncoming vehicle, causing damage to the windshield.

Officers on the scene gathered multiple witness statements and video evidence of the incident. Although Sanchez’s girlfriend was uncooperative and refused medical attention, Sanchez was arrested and charged with three counts of attempted assault in the first degree, assault in the third degree, and obstruction of governmental administration.

Sanchez was processed at the Stony Point Police Station and arraigned at the Stony Point Justice Court. He was remanded to the Rockland County Jail and is scheduled to return to court on August 27, 2024, at 1:30 PM.
