The Stony Point Police Department has arrested a 62-year-old local man following an alleged assault at a residential complex on Thursday afternoon.
According to police, officers responded to a report of an assault in progress on September 4, 2025, at approximately 2:10 p.m. Upon arrival, they spoke with a female victim who stated that John Nelson of Stony Point punched her in the chest with a closed fist, causing pain and soreness.
Nelson was taken into custody without incident and charged with Assault in the Third Degree and Harassment in the Second Degree. He was transported to police headquarters for processing and later released with an appearance ticket.
He is scheduled to appear in court on September 18, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in Stony Point Justice Court.
Police have not released further details about the incident.
