A large emergency response was dispatched early Friday morning after a structure fire broke out at a residence on Dickens Street in Stony Point.
At approximately 4:07 a.m., the Stony Point Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire at 24 Dickens Street. Due to the severity of the incident and initial reports of possible people trapped inside, mutual aid was requested from the West Haverstraw Fire Department, Haverstraw Fire Department, and Hillcrest Fire Department. Stony Point Police, Stony Point EMS, and other emergency personnel also responded to the scene. In addition, the New City Fire Department was requested to stand by at the Stony Point Fire Department headquarters to provide coverage for any additional emergency calls.
Firefighters quickly launched an aggressive interior attack while search crews conducted primary searches of the residence. Thankfully, the searches confirmed that no one was inside the home, despite the initial reports of possible entrapment. By approximately 5:00 a.m., firefighters had successfully knocked down the blaze.
Firefighters remained on scene conducting overhaul operations and investigating the cause of the fire. No injuries were immediately reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
