Rockland County Executive Ed Day released a statement Tuesday praising the announcement of a $1 million relief fund for North Rockland businesses impacted by construction tied to the Champlain Hudson Power Express (CHPE) project.
As Monsey Scoop previously reported, Congressman Mike Lawler announced the relief fund Tuesday following months of advocacy and negotiations involving local and state officials.
Day said the compensation comes after Rockland County and the Legislature made it clear they would withhold entering into a PILOT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) agreement with CHPE until meaningful relief was provided to affected businesses.
“Back in October, I along with the Legislature made it clear we would withhold entering into a PILOT Agreement with CHPE until meaningful relief was provided to those impacted,” Day said.
The County Executive credited the outcome to advocacy efforts from numerous elected officials and community leaders, including Congressman Lawler, Senator Bill Weber, Chairman Jay Hood, Minority Leader Lon Hofstein, former Stony Point Supervisor Jim Monaghan, along with local residents and business owners who pushed for accountability throughout the process.
“The County will always stand firm in demanding accountability and protecting the people of Rockland,” Day added.
