Statement from Rockland County Executive Ed Day on Jacksonville Shooting

“Our hearts break for the three innocent people slaughtered in what law enforcement has indicated to be a racially motivated shooting, carried out by a 21-year-old gunman who opened fire inside a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida over the weekend.

Racism, bigotry, and discrimination in any form are not only morally repugnant but also a threat to the foundations of a just and harmonious society.

The County of Rockland believes in the inherent worth and dignity of every individual, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or background and without question an attack on one is an attack on all, and we must stand united and refuse to let fear and prejudice divide us.”
