Statement from Ramapo Supervisor Michael B. Specht on the New Orleans Terror Attack

Our hearts go out to the two police officers injured in the New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans, as well as to the victims and families affected by this tragic act of violence.

The FBI has confirmed an ongoing investigation into the suspect’s potential connections to terrorist organizations. Reports indicate that weapons and a possible IED were discovered in the suspect’s vehicle, with additional potential explosives found in the French Quarter.

In light of these events, the Ramapo Police Department remains on heightened alert, ensuring the safety and security of our community through vigilant patrols. Our Police Chief is in regular communication with the department’s detective assigned to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force. While no credible or specific threats to our area have been identified, the J.T.F. office is closely monitoring the situation.

We urge all residents to stay vigilant. If you observe any suspicious activity, please report it immediately. Remember, if you see something, say something. For emergencies, dial 911.
